This is a frequently asked question we hear all the time from health-conscious paw parents looking for a natural and organic way to support their dogs. CBD is still fairly new to many humans (and doggos for that matter), including many of our four-legged friends. The good news is that we've been doing this for quite a chunk of time so if you're looking for an easy beginner's guide to cannabidiol, also known as CBD for dogs, you're in the right place!
If you've never given your dog CBD before, this is the perfect place to start. We highly recommend starting low and slow with your furry friend. Some dogs take CBD oil as part of their daily regimen, while others only use it as an occasional supplement to aid with situational occurrences (like fireworks, trips to the vet, car rides, being left alone). Whichever way you plan to use CBD with your dog, be consistent until you understand what works best for them.
We recommend giving your dog CBD once to twice daily, 4-8 hours between servings, for at least 3 days to get a good baseline.
There is no one-size-fits-all CBD oil solution - factors such as your dog’s size, metabolism, and age, health, and condition will all impact how CBD works for them. Adjust little by little as needed and go from there! (And don’t worry, CBD oil is safe and natural. Your dog will not “get high”!).

There are pros and cons to using CBD oil or CBD chews for your doggo. Ultimately, it's up to you to decide what will work best with your pet's wellness routine. A chew is easy for quickly and conveniently supporting your dog's health, especially on the go. While, on the other hand, CBD oil offers a high level of control - you can give your dog the exact CBD dosage they need thanks to our graduated dropper. It's much easier trying to squeeze less drops of out a CBD oil container compared to trying to break a CBD chew into 2/3rds for your doggo.
CBD can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to start working. As a general guideline, CBD oils tend to kick in a little faster compared to biscuits or treat given that there are fewer ingredients in CBD oil for their furry bellies to break down first. But there may not be any difference in effectiveness between the two. Either or should do the job!
Each dose—whether from oil or chews—lasts anywhere from 4-8 hours. That’s a big spread, we know, but the duration can vary a lot depending on your pet’s size, metabolism, age, health, activity level, breed, and the severity of their symptoms (if any). But as a general rule of thumb: older pups tend to take longer than younger ones to digest food or CBD oil. Just something to keep in mind!
