The How-To’s on CBD Isolate

Within the last five to ten years, CBD has become more and more popular, yet, there still are so many people who share questions and concerns about this growth in the cannabis industry. Is CBD safe? Are there really benefits to be had? What type of CBD is right for me? Which CBD product do I start with?

In today’s day, you can head to the internet and purchase full-spectrum CBD, broad-spectrum CBD, and CBD isolate. So what’s the catch? There are so many cannabis products to choose from, which may scare you a tiny bit, but there’s no need to fret! Whether you’re deciding on a CBD product for you or your four-legged friend, we’re here to help you navigate the slightly confusing CBD trail.

The cannabis industry has become an insane health trend amongst humans, dogs, cats, horses, and rightfully so!

Before you head to your local cannabis store or browse CBD online, know that there are many options for you to choose from, in addition to so much information you should want to know. CBD can be manufactured in many different methods, with each way providing you slightly different effects.

In today’s article, we’ll touch on the different ways of CBD, which choice may be best suitable for you and fido, and how it may affect your overall health and wellness.

Let’s get to it!

What is CBD Isolate?

CBD isolate is the purest, crystallized form of CBD, aka cannabidiol. Since it is pure, it does not come with any terpenes, flavonoids, or cannabinoids. Thus, the CBD has been isolated from all other naturally occurring compounds that are also found within the cannabis plant. When we say pure, we’re talking 99.9% pure CBD.

In order to purchase CBD isolate, it first is filtered from a hemp plant extract made using a CO2 extraction method, commonly used in the cannabis world. This process removes all of the active compounds in the cannabis plant, including tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), leaving behind pure CBD. This process leaves the CBD crystallized, almost looking like little grains of sugar. The CBD crystals that are a product of the extraction process are basically raw cannabidiol from industrial hemp. Cool right?

Full-Spectrum vs Broad-Spectrum vs Isolate: The Difference

There are three very different and popular forms of CBD that users can purchase.

1. Full-Spectrum CBD

Full-spectrum CBD products and oils are hemp-derived, with nothing separated out, meaning, you get a little bit of everything that is naturally present in the plant: other cannabinoids, plant matter, terpenes, and flavonoids.

THC may also be present in full-spectrum CBD, but only with levels less than 0.3% THC. Since this amount of THC is so small, users don’t need to worry about experiencing any high or mind-altering effects.

Some users prefer to use full-spectrum CBD oils and products, due to the potentials of the “entourage effect”. When numerous cannabinoids are present, they can work together to provide more potential benefits/results.

2. Broad-Spectrum CBD

Broad-spectrum CBD products can also be hemp-derived, with other cannabinoids being present, but with THC fully extracted out. After the initial extraction, broad-spectrum CBD goes through another step (beyond full-spectrum CBD) to ensure that the THC has been completely removed. It is possible that hemp-derived broad-spectrum CBD may have up to 0.3% THC present, but users still will not experience a “high” or “stoned” effect.

3. CBD Isolate

CBD isolate products contain no other cannabinoids or flavonoids or terpenes, like we briefly mentioned above. CBD isolate is just a ‘call it like you see it’ type of product, straightforward and direct.

So how the heck do you know which one is right for you? Which factors do you need to be considering?

When Should I Use CBD Isolate?

The main reason individuals may use CBD isolate instead of a full- or broad-spectrum CBD is because they may be looking for a pure CBD product and experience, without any THC, zero, zip, nada, nope.

CBD alone has no psychoactive effects, like we discussed. Since CBD isolate is basically crystallized CBD, there are very low chances of experiencing any psychoactive effects. Also, you may not need to worry about CBD isolate showing up on a drug test either.

CBD is odorless and flavorless, so this makes it extremely easy for users to take alone and with other beverages or foods.

Plus, if you live in a state where THC is strictly regulated or prohibited, you may still be able to use CBD isolate, as it comes from a legalized (in every state in the US) hemp plant, with no THC present.

Also, if you are sensitive to THC or the effects of it, CBD isolate may be a great option for you! While THC has shown to have many therapeutic benefits, some users may experience enhanced anxiety, making pure CBD isolate a better choice.

When Should I Use Full-Spectrum CBD?

Full-spectrum CBD may be best for those who are wanting to experience the full benefits of the potential “entourage effect”. The benefits of CBD may be highlighted when it is able to work with other cannabinoids. Some users may consider this a more “natural” approach to CBD, since it is closer to how CBD and other cannabinoids naturally exist within the hemp plant.

Those who use full-spectrum CBD are typically looking to use it with a specific health intent, whether that mental, physical, or emotional. Or, users may live in states where marijuana and or hemp is legal recreationally and medically. Keep in mind though, it is possible that this type of CBD may show up on a drug test.

When using a full-spectrum CBD, it’s important to take note that flavonoids and terpenes may have a strong taste or smell that some may not fancy. But of course, for some, this may not even be an issue.

When Should I Use Broad-Spectrum CBD?

Broad-spectrum CBD is a mixture of CBD isolate and full-spectrum CBD. The trace amounts of THC are removed, providing users the potential benefits of the “entourage effect” with no “high” feeling needed to be worried about from THC.

Broad-spectrum CBD is a great choice for those with a THC sensitivity or those who are not achieving their desired effects from using CBD isolate.

There may be a taste or odor associated with broad-spectrum CBD that you may want to take note of. The FDA has not done extensive research on broad-spectrum CBD yet.

What are the Benefits of CBD?

All forms of CBD products, including the types we just mentioned above, may be beneficial to the body in various ways because of their interaction with our endocannabinoid system (ECS). The benefits of cannabidiol in animals and humans may include:

  • Helping maintain joint and bone health
  • Enhancing the body’s immune response
  • Supporting heart health
  • Helping with anxiety, mood, and depression
  • Assisting with seizures

These potential benefits may vary depending on the type of CBD, how frequency you take it, what method of CBD usage, as well as your metabolism. When these compounds work together, the “entourage effect” may occur, with potential to provide users with a more heightened effect.
